Adoption Has Changed
Most people’s idea of adoption comes from stories that are decades out of date. The reality today is that expectant mothers have far more say in the process than most people realize, including who will raise their child, how involved they remain, and what their relationship looks like going forward.
It is worth getting accurate information about how adoption actually works before deciding whether it is or is not right for you.
If adoption is even slightly curious about, our staff can walk you through how it works today in a no-cost, confidential conversation. You are not committing to anything by asking.
Many women find that learning the facts changes their picture of what adoption looks like entirely.
You Set the Terms
As an expectant mother, the adoption plan is yours to shape.
You select the family. You determine the level of contact you want after placement. You can change course at any point before the process is legally finalized.
Adoption fully transfers parental rights to the adoptive family. But within that framework, your input guides the process from start to finish, and reputable adoption professionals are committed to ensuring you feel informed and respected at every step.
Types of Adoption Plans
Open adoption lets you choose the adoptive family and stay connected through visits, calls, letters, or photos based on an agreement both parties reach together.
Semi-open adoption allows ongoing updates and communication to flow through an agency or attorney, without a direct exchange of personal contact information between families.
Closed adoption keeps both sides anonymous with no contact after placement. This option is less common now but is still available for those who want full privacy.
Adoption-related legal and medical costs are typically covered, and reputable agencies offer support throughout pregnancy and after placement, not just at the point of decision.
